Mark Hinderlie, President & CEO
Mark HinderlieMark Hinderlie began his service to Hearth in 2006. During his tenure, Hearth opened a new residence -- Hearth at Burroughs, created a Board of Visitors which significantly improved its fund raising base, and pursued the development of three major initiatives to address elder homelessness. Mark formerly served as President and Executive Director of Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, where he led a comprehensive restructuring of the agency, resulting in a dramatic improvement in its fiscal health.

Previously, Mark was the President of Hinderlie Associates, providing counsel to human service agencies and hospitals in organizational development and strategic planning. During this time, he also served as the Chief Development Officer for Franciscan Children’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Center. His prior positions include President of the Boston Childre ’s Institute, Executive Director of Boston Children’s Services, and Director of Development for Project Bread/The Walk for Hunger. Throughout the 1980s, Mark held leadership positions with the United Way of Massachusetts Bay, the Community & Youth Services Division of the City of Cambridge, and the Community Learning Center. He graduated from Yale and holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School.

Kathy Arruda, Director of Property Management
Kathy ArrudaKathy Arruda joined Hearth in 1999 as the Director of Property Management. Her prior experience includes 14 years as the Management Supervisor at the Housing Services Company in Boston, overseeing 200 units of mixed-income housing. Kathy was the Director of Properties at S-C Management Corp. where she supervised the management of 900 multi-family, mixed-income housing units. Kathy also worked for the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency as the Senior Management Analyst and had portfolio management of 23 mixed-income housing developments. She is a member of the New Bedford Realtors Association, the Institute of Real Estate Management, and the Association of Affirmative Action Professionals. She earned her business degree from Bristol Community College and is a HUD Certified Housing Manager.

Adrienne Beloin LICSW, Director of Outreach
Adrienne BeloinAdrienne comes to Hearth from the Faulkner Hospital where she worked as a clinical social worker for five years and earned a 2009 Partners in Excellence award. Adrienne completed a Masters in Social Work program at Simmons College, interning at the Infectious Disease Clinic at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and at the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. She has worked in the Boston Public School system and for a number of nonprofit organizations in both professional and volunteer capacities. Adrienne holds an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in Sociology and Women’s Studies.

Debbi Cutler MSW LICSW, Director of Behavioral Health
Debbi CutlerDebbi Cutler began her professional work at the Jewish Community Center in a day care program for the elderly. During her Masters program for social work at Boston University she served as a Research Assistant there and also functioned as a social work intern at the Jewish Family and Children’s Services and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. After obtaining her MSW, Debbi worked her way up the ranks of Brigham and Women’s Hospital for a dozen years until reaching the position of Senior Clinical Social Worker. During that time, she gave countless lectures on geriatric care. Debbi joined Hearth in 2000 as a Site Director and was promoted to Director of Behavioral Health in 2005.

Ethel Fowkes, RN BSHCA, Director of Health Services
Ethel FowkesPrior to assuming the role of Director of Health Services, Ethel Fowkes was the Program Nurse at Ruggles Assisted Living for three years. Before joining the staff at Hearth, Ethel was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston for 18 years. During that time she was an operations manager for ten years. Ethel has been employed as a staff nurse and as a screening nurse for Medicaid. Ethel is a Certified Alzheimer’s Trainer.
 
 

Anne S. Garmey, Director of Institutional Advancement
Annie GarmeyAnnie Garmey comes to Hearth with 20 years of fundraising experience, most recently working in development for The Rivers School in Weston MA. At Rivers, Annie served as the Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs for seven years and has spent the last six years as the Campaign Coordinator, implementing two successful capital fund drives. In addition, Annie has worked as an independent prospect researcher and as Assistant to the Associate Director of Development at The Harvard College Fund. Annie serves on the Board of The Billy Burchard Foundation and recently volunteered her time as the Development Consultant for a $4.5 million campaign to raise money for athletic fields in the town of Weston. She has served on the Board of Roxbury Weston Programs and the Weston Land Trust. She is a graduate of St. Lawrence University.

William Porcello, Chief Financial Officer
Bill PorcelloBill Porcello joined Hearth’s senior management team in 2009. Before becoming Hearth’s CFO, Bill spent many years in private industry where he gained significant and broad-based accounting and finance experience. Most recently, Bill was Director of Finance for the Consumer Electronics Division of Polaroid. Bill began his professional career as an auditor, and eventually a certified public accountant, for a regional New England accounting firm. After working in this capacity, Bill spent the next nearly 30 years in other professional positions improving financial performance, building streamlined business processes and systems, and increasing effectiveness within organizations. Bill received an MBA in Finance and Information Technology Management from the University of Notre Dame and has an undergraduate degree in accounting from Northeastern University.

May Shields RN MSN, Chief Operating Officer
May ShieldsPrior to working for Hearth, May Shields most recently worked for Tufts Health Plan as a Senior Project Manager/Planner for Pharmacy Services Planning and Development. May also served in various capacities at the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston (VNAB) for 20 years. Her professional work at VNAB included several director and manager positions, culminating with her service as Director of Special Projects. In addition, May worked as a Health Care Consultant for Simione and Simione, as well as a lecturer for MGH Institute of Health Professions. May served as the Director of Health Services for Hearth before her appointment to the position of Chief Operating Officer. She holds a Masters Degree from Boston College.
