The Challenge
In December 2008, to show her support and to help inspire others to do the same, Hearth Board Member Myrna Putziger generously matched all new and increased donations to Hearth, up to a total of $25,000.
The economic crisis hit all of us, but there are those for whom it means choosing between food, medical costs, heat and housing. These choices can result in elders becoming homeless - harrowing at any age, but particularly terrible for frail elders.
Elder homelessness is increasing. Hearth's wait list for housing has never been longer, and the demand for our outreach services has never been greater.
For Hearth, at a time when our services are more important than ever, funding our programs is also more challenging than ever:
- State budget cuts have hit us with a reduction of $108,000 - and further cuts are likely
- Some of our long time philanthropic supporters have had to pull back.
