Helping Our Elders: Food Drives and other Collections
Since 1995, the Outreach Program at Hearth has been assisting homeless elders in their housing searches. However even after seniors find homes, they have little income for food and personal items after paying the rent, security deposit, and moving expenses.
Hearth's Outreach Team also goes into homeless shelters to help
impoverished elders find housing and give them non-perishable
foods, new full-sized personal care items, subway
tokens, food/gift cards, phone cards, and more.
In order to offer these items, the Outreach Program at Hearth depends on donations from collections organized by people like you. We're always in need of these items, and we need your help!
If you would like to do a collection drive for Hearth, the first step is to contact Outreach Program Director Jane Erickson at (617) 369-1559 or send her an email. She will be more than happy to give you an updated list of what Hearth needs, help you plan the drive, and facilitate a convenient drop-off time.
Please keep in mind:
- We can always use what is on our list of "continuously needed items."
- You don't have to limit yourself to travel-sized personal care items; our clients love full-sized containers.
- We would like new (not used) personal care items.
- We would like new (not used or gently used) clothes.
Thank you!
