Helping Hearth's Elderly Outreach Clients
Collecting Basic Household Items to Help Elders Settle in Their New Homes
Since 1995, the Outreach Program at Hearth has been helping homeless elders find and succeed in homes of their own. One small way in which Case Managers help their clients is by offering them basic items homeless elders cannot always afford such as:
- toothpaste and tooth brushes,
- soap and shampoo,
- Charlie Cards or taxi voutures.
The Outreach Program has also begun to maintain a small store of household items to help their clients transition from being homeless to having a home. Useful "start-up" items for newly housed clients include:
- Cleaning supplies
- Kitchen utensils
- Picture frames
- A clock
- Magnets
- Home decor
In order to offer basic items to their clients, the Hearth Outreach Program depends on donations from the community. We are always in need of these items, and we need your help!
If you would like to make an inkind donation of these items or organize a collection drive, please contact Jennifer Hartwell at (617) 369-1565 or send her an email. She can tell you what items our elders particulary need, help you plan the drive, and facilitate a convenient drop-off time.
Please keep in mind:
- We can always use what is on our list of " continuously needed items."
- You don't have to limit yourself to travel-sized personal care items; our clients love full-sized containers.
- We would like new (not used) personal care items.
