Celebrating Caring Partnerships: The Distinguished Service Awards

Bob Halloran - weekend news and sports actor at WCVB-TV Channel 5 and Hearth Board Member - emceed the event which recognized Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston and Doctor Mazur as the recipients of the Distinguished Service Award.

Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston

Robert W. Loring, President

Bob Loring with Mark Hinderlie We honored Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston for their commitment to Boston's low-income elder population. We recognize and value their goal of helping this group to live independently through their funding of nonprofit organizations and their efforts to encourage collaboration among the organizations they support.

In addition to grant making, the Foundation is committed to promoting discussion and collaboration. The Sailors' Snug Harbor's Annual Elder Program Luncheon provides a unique opportunity for organizations with common interests to meet and discuss issues facing Boston's low-income elder population. Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston helps forge connections between nonprofits and encourages collaboration that helps all of us operate more efficiently, to provide a snug harbor, and to bring elders home for good.

Paul Mazur, MD MPH

Greg Ansin, Paul Mazur, and Michael NeelWe honored Dr. Mazur not only because of his contributions as member of Hearth's Board of Directors, but also because of his work as a trusted doctor providing compassionate, high quality care to undeserved individuals. Paul worked with Hearth residents for seven years through the Urban Medical Group. He provided on-site primary care to many multiply-challenged residents and clients out of reach of traditional healthcare.

Troubled by disparities in healthcare for different populations, Dr. Mazur developed an interest in public health. He obtained a Masters in Public Health while continued to practice medicine, and initiated numerous efforts to create programs for people who otherwise would not have access to high quality primary care.

Hearth will miss Dr. Mazur terribly. He has moved to Maine and is currently practicing medicine at the Veterans Administration.
