On Sept. 21 and 22, in conjunction with the South End Open Studios, a two-day art show was held at Hearth’s Anna Bissonnette House where over 70 pieces of original art work were on display and available for purchase. Twenty of the pieces were part of a silent auction.

As those who were there can attest, artist Peter Phelps - now a spry 81 years old - was there all day both days. He spent most of the time on the sidewalk outside of ABH, enjoying the fall sunshine and asking everyone who walked by to stop in.

"Just go take a look around, please." Most people could not resist, and many left with a painting under their arm.

The show was a great success - bringing new friends to Hearth and raising both funds and awareness. All told, over $6,000 was raised to help support our work to end elder homelessness.

Hearth is so grateful to Phelps's generosity and specially recognized him at the 2008 Annual Meeting in November. Phelps was happy to accept Hearth's thanks but did not want any kind of award plaque. Instead Hearth board member Sue Forti presented the artists with three blank canvases.

"Very simply, I believe in giving back," Phelps said. "Hearth has been a great help to me."

Hearth is very thankful to all the volunteers who helped out at the art show. We couldn't have done it without you!
