In Memoriam: Mel Shapiro

Mel Shapiro with his wife Enid Sadly a great friend to Hearth passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008. Mel Shapiro, a former Hearth (then CEEH) Board Member, died at the age of 93.

In 1997 The Shapiro Community Room at Anna Bissonnette House was named in Mr. Shapiro's honor in recogntion of his important work for this organization,and was part of a campaign that was generously supported by his family, friends and colleagues.

The room continues to be enjoyed by grateful Hearth residents and is the site of weekly bingo games, monthly birthday parties, and other activities.

In 2004, Mr. Shapiro was presented with the Treasured Elders Award for his contributions to Hearth.

Mel will be greatly missed by the Hearth community.
