Volunteering

Volunteers from People Making a Difference visit several times a year to prepare meals and sometimes play games.

Hearth's elderly residents love having visitors, whether those volunteers put on a performance, cook a meal, challenge the residents to a game of Wii Bowling, or simply sit and visit.

Hearth's staff rely on volunteers to help with behind-the-scene tasks like answering phones, filing, and record-keeping. In addition, volunteers assist with gardening and yardwork, and indoor cleaning, painting, and decorating projects.

Most volunteer needs and opportunities can be scheduled to fit your busy life and can be arranged as one-time opportunities or on a regular basis.

 

Please don't hesitate to introduce other activities based on your talents and interests!

 

Steps to Volunteering*

1. Browse our current volunteer needs and opportunities.
2. Contact Jennifer Hartwell, Associate Director of Volunteers, by email or by phone at 617-369-1565 to discuss your interests.
3. Fill out and submit the volunteer application (pdf). Remember to include a copy of your driver's license or other government-issued ID.**
4. Meet with your assigned Hearth staff member and outline your volunteer activities and schedule.
5. Join the Hearth community and have fun!

*one-time volunteers may not need to complete all these steps.
**Hearth requires a CORI check for volunteers.
